Course Description – High School Health is a year long course that will guide students through the many dimensions of wellness. The foundation of a healthy teenager is the knowledge that their health is in their hands and is based upon their day-to-day decisions. Students will develop skills needed in confronting difficult situations; understand health prevention and promotion techniques that will establish a solid personal health education; and become health literate in making positive and healthy decisions. Students will be able to base present and future decisions, on topics such as drugs, alcohol, sexual relationships, diet, and exercise, upon knowledge of current facts rather than upon hearsay from friends and media.

- Be Respectful. This extends to respecting the classroom, fellow students, themselves, as well as the teacher.
- Be Safe. This includes physical, emotional, and social safety. Emotional safety refers to providing an environment free from insults and bullying. Social safety refers to including and making others feel welcome.
- Try Your Best. Everyone has a different best. No matter your skill level, attitude toward the learning activity, or who you are working with try your best.
- Have Fun. The best classes are the ones you enjoy and have fun in. I seek to have that occur for everyone in every class, but not at the expense of others.
The students Health grade is determined by points earned for journal writes, homework assignments, written tests, in class assignments, and individual and group projects. Grades are calculated by the percentage of points earned out of total points possible.
Late Work Policies:
Students are expected to turn in assigned work and projects on the due date. It is up to the student to get their assignments from a missed day. Late work due to an excused absence will be accepted for full credit within two days of returning to school. Other late work will receive reduced credit.
- Water is allowed in the classroom. Please no food or other beverages. (If you must bring healthy food or drink into the classroom, please store them at the front of the room)
- Choose a seat where you can be successful. A seating chart will be introduced if I see the need.
- Cell phones should not be in use during class time unless specified by the teacher. Texting or checking your phone during instruction will result in confiscation of the phone. You may retrieve the phone at the end of the day from the office.
- Your work should be your own. Cheating/plagiarism is unacceptable.
- Use our class time effectively. Homework is generally not assigned. If you fail to finish in class work, it becomes homework.
- Do your best! Be positive and always try to learn something.
- I don’t know everything! I am always learning and practicing. Try to do the same and don’t be afraid to ask questions!
